Founders Story
From Humble Beginnings to Plumbing Excellence
The inception story of Reliant Plumbing is one underscored by an unyielding commitment to solving plumbing issues with superior service and craftsmanship. It all began with Max Hicks, who embarked on his journey in the trade as an apprentice in 2001. Over the course of eight years, Hicks honed his skills in the field, meticulously learning the complexities of plumbing systems and the importance of solving problems efficiently and effectively. By 2009, his prowess as a pipefitter was acknowledged with his promotion to a journeyman, a role that further solidified his expertise and passion for the craft.
In 2013, after a rigorous journey of learning and personal growth, Hicks achieved his master plumber certification at the age of 29. The next year, at 30, he channeled his dedication to quality and dependable plumbing solutions into founding a plumbing company. Reliant’s origin is of humble beginnings—starting out of a garage, driven by a vision to provide exceptional service. Hicks’ foundation of quality work rooted in customer satisfaction enabled Reliant Plumbing to swiftly move operations from a modest garage to a professional building, reflecting its growing success.
By May 2023, Reliant Plumbing had expanded to a critical industry hub by opening a new branch in San Antonio, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting in June of the same year. This milestone was not only a testament to the company’s growth but also to the community’s recognition of its value, as Max Hicks was nominated for the San Antonio Best Supplier of the Year by the San Antonio Apartment Association. The following year, the triumph continued with Reliant Plumbing being awarded the Best Plumbing Service Award in the YourSA Readers Choice Awards.
Central to Reliant Plumbing’s ethos is the wealth of experience brought forth by Kane Childress, our Master Plumber. With decades of vital experience in both commercial and residential plumbing, Kane is integral to maintaining the level of excellence in our Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas locations. Between the three crucial Texan cities, Kane is instrumental in upholding service quality and providing plumbers with invaluable on-the-job training.
